Social Services Department Touts Utilicare Program

October 26, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The State Social Services Department is talking up the Utilicare program, which has not been funded in a number of years. Utilicare is a state program similar to the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program – or LIHEAP. Deborah Scott, with the State Social Services Department, says Utilicare has existed for some time, but has not been funded for several years. Governor Matt Blunt wants to make the funding of Utilicare part of the next budget process. Individuals with incomes below 125 percent of the federal poverty level and who have responsibility for paying their home heating bills can apply for assistance to see whether they meet the income guidelines.
