Guilty Plea Reached in Fatal Van Crash

October 26, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

A Guatemalan citizen who was in a van that crashed near Columbia in May, killing five people, has pleaded guilty to criminal charges. The federal prosecutor says Gelson Omar Mancilla-Santiago has pleaded guilty to illegally re-entering the country, and to running a business of transporting illegal aliens. Seventeen illegal aliens were the the van when it rolled over on Interstate 70 near Columbia. Mancilla-Santiago admits he was driving the van when it left Los Angeles two days before the crash. But he denies being the driver at the time of the rollover. He’ll be sentenced later.
