Senator Kit Bond urges those wanted to speed hurricane recovery funding through Congress to be patient and wait for a thorough assessment of the damage done before making the request. Bond says recovery in the Gulf Coast needs to follow the procedure used for New York after the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Bond says that once such an assessment is completed, a wide range of federal assistance would be made available, including to those who lived in risky neighborhoods. Bond also worries that any efforts to add hurricane recovery money to the budget bills will slow down a process that he believes has already taken too long.
