A national championship is coming to Mid-Missouri. Columbia College has awarded its 2006 and 2007 NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championships. The games will be held at Southwell Complex, which underwent major renovations in 2002. To be considered for the tournament, the host gym must be big enough to hold three courts.

This will be quite a boost for the Columbia College volleyball team which has qualified for the national tournament each year since 1994. In fact, the school has won the national championship three times (1998, ’99, and ’01).

The last three tournaments have been held in San Diego, California and it will be there again this year. Kankakee, Illinois was the last Midwest site for the NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Championship. It was held there in 1997 and 1998.

Columbia College is no stranger to hosting national championships. In 1991 and 1993-’95, it was the home of the NAIA Softball National Championshps.
