Game one of the National League Championship Series is Wednesday night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The Cardinals and Astros will meet in the NLCS for the second straight season. St. Louis came away with a 4-games-to-3 thriller in last year’s NLCS.

The starters for Game 1 were both injured in the playoffs last year. Chris Carpenter, who won 21 games in the regular season, will take on Andy Pettite, who won 17 games in 2005. Carpenter suffered from nerve damage in his right biceps and missed the entire post-season in 2004. Pettite’s elbow was so injured, that he had to have it rebuilt.

Carpenter was a perfect 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA against Houston this season, though he was bailed out of a loss on September, 28. In that game, Carpenter allowed five earned runs in six innings of work (it included two homers.)

Pettite’s numbers against the Cardinals were impressive, but it didn’t result in any wins. He was 0-1 with a 1.35 ERA against St. Louis in three starts.
