Royals General Manager Allard Baird will be back for the 2006 season, despite the team’s record setting futility. Owner David Glass told the Kansas City Star that Baird will be back to finish out his contract, which expires next season.

Baird took the job in 2000 and since then Kansas City has finished above .500 only once. In three of the last four seasons, the team has set franchise records for losses, culminating with a 56-106 finish this season.

There will be a little more money for Baird to work with in 2006, as Glass has announced that the team will up its payroll to $50 million next season. In 2004, the Royals spent $36-million on player salaries.
