Kansas City will have another football team to root for. The Arena Football League is expanding to Kansas City beginning with the 206 season, which begins in January. The unnamed team will play in Kemper Arena for the first two seasons and move to the new downtown arena after it opens.

The franchise will have a base of 15 players who are still under contract with the New Orleans VooDoo, which won’t play this season because of damage from Hurricane Katrina. Owner Tom Benson will retain rights to the team.

The Arena Football League began in 1987 and has expanded to 18 teams.
