CMSU Part of Effort to Involve Young People in Politics

October 3, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

An organization working across the country to get young people involved in politics is working with Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. Democracy Matters is part of the American Democracy Project, an effort to encourage college students to become more civic minded. Petra Stankard, a regional field director for Democracy Matters, ties young people, involvement, and money matters together. Stankard says youth often feel alienated from politicians, because they typically don’t have much money and politicians tend to pay attention to those funding their campaigns. Stankard says funding campaigns through public, not private, dollars would free the politicians to talk issues rather than raise money.
