AG Begins Legal Action Against Alleged Gas Gougers

September 28, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Nine Missouri gas stations are paying $6,750 in penalties to settle price-gouging allegations made by Attorney General Jay Nixon. A tenth station has refused to settle and is being sued in Greene County. Nixon began investigating possible gouging after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast and prices skyrocketed. He says the Springfield gas station that’s being sued jacked up its profit margin on gasoline by 400 percent in the days after Katrina struck. Missouri has about 3,000 gas stations.
