Governor Matt Blunt is touring the state, signing copies of the anti-abortion bill passed during the recently-concluded special session of the General Assembly. The actual signing of the bill took place shortly after it was passed by the Legislature. This seven city ceremonial signing tour is designed to give Governor Blunt a chance to talk up the legislation. Implementation of that law is on hold as a result of legal challenges. The Governor isn’t surprised by the legal action, but says he’s disappointed that opponents rushed to court. Blunt expects the law, in its entirety, to be upheld by the courts. A key ingredient of the law provides additional barriers to taking a minor out of Missouri to avoid the state’s parental notification law.
