A groundbreaking ceremony has kicked off a project on the grounds of Missouri Farm Bureau headquarters in Jefferson City. Farm Bureau President Charlie Kruse says It’s a project to rebuild a two-story log home believed to have been used by a Confederate General during the Civil War and to take an old warehouse and turn it into an Agricultural and Rural Heritage Museum. The Wallendorf log cabin, built by Bartholomew Wallendorf in the 1800s, is believed by historians to have been used by Southern General Sterling Price – a former Missouri Governor – as the Confederates decided whether to attack Jefferson City. Price opted not to attack. There’s no timeline for restoration of the cabin and construction of the museum. But, the Farm Bureau wants to begin work as quickly as possible. The project is being funded by the Missouri Farm Bureau Foundation.
