State Public Safety Director Mark James says the devastation of Hurricane Katrina serves as a wake-up call to this state that it needs to be prepared in case of a major disaster here. He says while some problems with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s response to the disaster were exposed, we cannot just look to the federal government for help. James believes the problems FEMA had in the Gulf Region should actually help that agency better deal with the next disaster.
