It appears the Legisalture will call on Missouri’s Congressional delegation and state officials to do everything possible to keep the Army Corps of Engineers from instituting a so-called spring rise on the Missouri River. The Corps has told a federal judge it is an intentional flood, caused by the release of water from an upstream reservoir. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wants the extra water to help the endangered pallid sturgeon. But Seantor Bill Stouffer of Napton says the nine-foot rise would be devastating. The Senate has adopted a resolution and the House is expected to do the same thing – calling for the state to try to block the rise.
