The Royals have now started another streak. After snapping their 19-game skid on Saturday, they won again on Sunday with a 12-inning, 5-4 decision in Oakland.

Emil Brown proved to be the hero for Kansas City by driving in the winning run with a single in the top of the 12th. Jimmy Gobble finished off three perfect innings of relief by putting the side down in order in the bottom of the 12th for the win.

Kansas City had to erase a 3-0 deficit in the eighth inning to force extra innings. Matt Stairs drove in two-runs with a double to get the Royals to within a run. Emil Brown stepped to the plate and grounded out to short, but it was enough to score Mike Sweeney from third and the game was tied 3-3. Terrence Long’s sacrifice fly to center put Kansas City on top 4-3.

Oakland came back in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single from Jay Payton to re-tie the game. Reliever Mike MacDougal allowed the hit after Jeremy Affeldt put men on first and second.

Royals’ starter Runelvys Hernandez pitched two innings then had to exit the game after suffering tightness in his back.
