The season is over for Cardinals’ third baseman Scott Rolen. While exact details haven’t been hammered out, Rolen will have his injured right shoulder operated on sometime in the next two weeks. The Cardinals hope that the season-ending procedure will have him ready in time for spring training. Rehabilitation is expected to take six months.

Rolen injured the shoulder on May 10, when he collided with Hee-Seop Choi of the Dodgers. That kept him out of the lineup until June 17. His production was limited, as he struggled with the shoulder, hitting just .205 with no homeruns during his return. He was put back on the DL on July 22.
