The University of Missouri basketball team will take the majority of their medicine this season as opposed to next.
As part of their probation from the NCAA last year, MU was forced to forgo two scholarships in one season and lose one scholarship in another. They decided to serve the two-scholarship punishment this season, by playing with just 11 scholarship players, instead of 13, in 2005-2006. This is according to their annual compliance report to the NCAA, which was released on Thursday.
However that decision was made easier, since one of their recruits for the 2005-2006 season failed to qualify academically and another probably won’t either. Guard Keaton Grant, who hails from Kissimmee, Florida, will be attending prep school after failing to meet eligibility requirements on his ACT test.
Forward DeAndre Thomas has reportedly failed some core classes and is not yet enrolled for classes at MU.
The basketball team also lost a scholarship player when Linas Kleiza opted out of his final two years at MU to declare himself eligible for the NBA draft.
