Suit Filed Over Adoption Subsidy Cuts

August 15, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Saying it violates federal law, current and former foster children are suing Governor Matt Blunt over a new state law that cuts adoption subsidies. St. Louis University Legal Clinic Director John Ammann says it’s illegal for the State to reduce or eliminate subsidies without the parents’ permission. He says the suit is being filed on behalf of children now in foster care, who won’t be adopted because parents can’t afford to take them on without state help. The law is to take effect August 28th.
