Next Round in Wellston School Fight Set For Next Month

August 15, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The latest step in the legal challenge of the State takeover of the troubled Wellston School District in St. Louis County has been taken, and more action will be taken next month. Lawyers have appeared before a Cole County judge in Jefferson City for a status hearing on the plaintiffs’ claim that they were wronged by the decision. Mark Van Zandt, General Council of the Missouri Department of Education, says that while a lot of people are interested in the outcome, only two parties are involved – the State and former members of the Wellston School District’s Board. Attorneys for the plaintiffs and the State will submit a discovery plan by early next month. That will give the judge an idea as to how to proceed. The earliest anything substantive could be done would be September 19th.
