The Cardinals ended a four-game series against the Cubs with a 5-4 loss at Wrigley Field Sunday.

Mike Mahoney’s first home run got St. Louis on the board and gave them a brief 1-0 lead. Corey Patterson erased that advantage by hitting a two-run homer off Matt Morris in the bottom half of the inning.

In the fifth, Matt Lawton took Matt Morris deep with a solo shot, to give Chicago a 3-1 advantage. But the Cardinals would come back.

So Taguchi hit a bases loaded single- to right in the sixth inning to score Jim Edmonds. Mahoney reached on a fielder’s choice later in the inning, as Abraham Nunez scored to tie the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the sixth Jose Macias drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a two-run, pinch-hit double off Morris. Morris was then pulled for Randy Flores.

John Rodriguez grounded in a run in the top of the ninth, to make it 5-4, but the rally died after that.

St. Louis dropped three of four to the Cubs.
