Governor Matt Blunt is vowing to make Missouri a trendsetter in protecting children from sexual predators. He says legislation passed during the most recent session of the General Assembly got the ball rolling, but it’s only the start. Blunt says protection efforts will be strengthened during the next session of the Legislature by supporting a bill modeled on Jessica’s Law in Florida. It would require for a minimum 25-year prison sentence for anyone committing a violent sexual offense against a child. In addition, the predator would be monitored electronically for the rest of that person’s life.
