Governor Matt Blunt has officially asked for federal drought assistance. In a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Blunt has asked that 109 of the 114 counties in Missouri be declared disaster areas because of the prolonged drought. If granted, the declaration could open up certain federal money, including loans and grants as relief.
