Eminent Domain Task Force Holds First Meeting

August 4, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Governor Matt Blunt’s Eminent Domain Task Force has held its first meeting at the State Capitol. It was an information session – not just for panel members but for some interested observers. An attorney who deals with eminent domain cases explained the concept to the Task Force and observers packing a hearing room in the Capitol. The bottom line: Just about any jurisdiction in Missouri can execute an eminent domain seizure, because the definition of “blighted area” is vague. Jim Roos of St. Louis, who says he lost his home in an eminent domain takeover, says homeowners should be concerned with the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in a Connecticut case. He says eminent domain is being abused. Roos and others are calling on Governor Blunt to declare a moratorium on all eminent domain takeovers, at least until the Task Force completes its work.
