Missouri’s elected leaders are talking up the second annual sales tax holiday which is set for this weekend. Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder, who first introduced the idea when he was a State Senator, says this is good for consumers and good for Missouri’s economy because purchasers of tax exempt items will buy items on which taxes are being charged. Kinder expects residents of neighboring states to visit Missouri this weekend to take advantage of sales of tax exempt items. Those items include most school supplies, articles of clothing and many computers. Kinder points out that in cities and counties which have opted out of the sales tax holiday, the local sales tax will be charged, but the 4.225 percent state sales tax will be waved on the exempt items.
