Poltical Science Prof Says Bolton Appointment Could Cause Future Problems

August 1, 2005 By admin

President George W. Bush has made an end run around Senate filibustering of his nominee to be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations by making a recess appointment of John Bolton. Shari Bax, a political science professor at Central Missouri State University, says this indicates the President had had enough of the stalling tactics. On two occasions, Senate Republicans tried to end Democratic filibusters to force an up or down vote on Bolton’s nomination, but the Democrats held firm on both occasions. Bax says there could be a bit of a backlash that will be seen during the Senate confirmation process for Supreme Court nominee John Roberts or a future nominee to the High Court.
