The St. Louis Rams training camp home changed this year. Since 1996, they practiced on the campus of Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. In April, the team decided to move camp back home to Rams Park in Earth City, Missouri (just west of St. Louis).

“This is something that we’ve contemplated for a while,” Martz said after the Rams’ first practice on Wednesday. “We really do feel that this is much more beneficial for us.”

As far as Martz is concerned, the Rams have no plans on going back to Macomb, or any other remote location for that matter. “As long as the logistics of things work out, there’s no other issues for us to consider.”

Besides complaints of boredom from the players, one of the biggest burdens of training camp in Macomb, was the travel. Macomb is 175 miles from St. Louis.

“Any time you can put your head on your own pillow or at least be in your hometown instead of traveling that’s always a good deal,” Martz said.

Missing from camp are three of the Rams draft picks. Offensive tackle Alex Barron, who the Rams took out of Florida St. with the 19th pick of the draft, was absent along with second-round cornerback Ronald Bartell Jr. of Howard and third round offensive guard Richie Incognito of Nebraska.
