Four years, to the day, after getting traded from Kansas City to Oakland, White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye reminded the Royals and their fans of what could have been.
Dye went three-for-six with four RBI’s to lead Chicago to a 14-6 win over Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium.
Dye kept a five-run rally in the first inning going for the White Sox with a two-run single off Royals’ starter Zack Greinke. He struck again with another two-run single in the fourth inning to give Chicago an 8-3 advantage. Juan Uribe was the other big bat for Chicago—he hit a solo home run and a two-run single to drive in three. Westphalia, Missouri native and Fatima High School graduate, Joe Crede, was two-for-five with an RBI and two runs scored.
Terrence Long drove in three runs for the Royals in the losing effort. His run-scoring single in the third inning made the score 5-2 and he later scored on a wild pitch from White Sox starter Freddy Garcia (10-4) to cut the lead to two runs. That’s as close as the Royals got the rest of the night. Long hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning. It was his fourth home run of the season.
Greinke dropped to 3-12 on the season after lasting just 3 1/3 innings. He allowed seven runs off 10 hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Garcia, on the other hand, has been almost unbeatable lately, going 7-1 in his last 13 starts.
The White Sox have the best record in baseball at 65-33 and hold a 12-game lead over the Twins in the A.L. Central. They also have the best record on the road with a mark of 32-14 away from the south side of Chicago.
