A complaint filed with the State Ethics Commission against the Matt Blunt for Governor Campaign moves forward. The complaint, filed by the Missouri Democratic Party, charges Blunt failed to report an in-kind contribution of a tour bus to his gubernatorial campaign by Jefferson City car dealer Mike Kehoe. Ethics Commission Executive Director Bob Connor says the complaint has been sent to the Attorney General’s office. Connor points out this alleged violation is not a criminal offense. Republican Party Spokesman John Hancock says nothing wrong was done because the lease was reported – after payment was made. That, he says, is standard procedure in reporting involving the Ethics Commission. If action is taken, the campaign could be liable for a fine. Hancock wants Attorney General Jay Nixon to recuse himself from this case, because of speculation Nixon will run for Governor in 2008. He says the appearance of impartiality would be compromised. The Attorney General’s office is not commenting at this time.
