You could say the Cardinals squeezed out a win over Arizona on Wednesday night. Literally. David Eckstein’s suicide squeeze bunt in the top of the ninth drove in So Taguchi and gave the Redbirds a 2-1 in over the D’Backs. Runs were at a premium in a game that featured just seven hits. Jim Edmonds put the Cardinals on top with a solo home run in the first. The game stayed 1-0 unti Alex Cintron homered off Chris Carpenter in the sixth. Yadier Molina led off the ninth with a double, then was replaced by Taguchi. Abraham Nunez bunted Taguchi to third before Eckstein brought him in with the squeeze bunt. Carpenter gave up just one run and three hits over eight innings and improved to 13-4. Jason Isringhausen pitched a scoreless ninth for his 200th career save. Javier Vazquez was the hard-luck loser. He fell to 7-8 despite throwing a three-hitter.
