Governor Matt Blunt has signed legislation reinstating the waste tire fee. The bill signed by Blunt brings back the 50-cent waste tire fee that will be charged on every tire sold in Missouri. It’s a fee that had been in place until January of 2004, when it was allowed to lapse. The fee gives the Department of Natural Resources the money it needs to better protect the environment by picking up and shredding thousands of tons of discarded tires. The law requiring a 50-cent fee to be added to every new tire sold takes effect October 1st. Summer expects the effort to raise more than $2-Million each year.
