Dems Expect Stem Cell Debate to Highlight 2006 Senate Race

July 6, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Missouri Democrats don’t have a candidate for next year’s U.S. Senate race, but it looks as though they’ll have an issue. State Democratic Party Chairman Roger Wilson says the contest could very well come down to the issues rather than the candidates, and he expects the stem cell research debate to be at the forefront. The former Governor says incumbent Senator Jim Talent is not committed to stem cell research, while many Missourians – regardless of party affiliation – want to see more research being done. He says such research holds the promise of possible cures for everything from cancer to paralysis. Talent has raised more than $3.3-Million, so far, for his reelection bid. The Democrats have not chosen a candidate to challenge Talent, but Wilson says we could see one emerge in the coming weeks.
