Jefferson City Teenager Avoids Deportation

July 1, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

There is some good news for a Jefferson City family facing deportation to Costa Rica this coming Tuesday. Marie Gonzales, the 19-year-old daughter of a couple who remained in this country after a visitors’ visa had expired, will have her deportation deferred for at least one year. Marie’s parents will, however, be subject to the July 5th deportation order. Rich Chrismer, a spokesman for Senator Jim Talent says Talent’s office received a call Friday afternoon from the Homeland Security Department. This year-long deferment will allow Marie Gonzalez – who was born in Costa Rica but has always called Missouri home – to continue efforts to make the case that she should be allowed to stay.
