A US Supreme Court ruling on the rights of cities to condemn property in the name of economic development has a couple of statewide officeholders worried. Attorney General Jay Nixon says the State Legislature must act to protect private property in wake of the Connecticut case that favored the city’s planned riverfront development over homeowners who fought it. Nixon says the case broadens the powers of local governments to condemn property to make way for economic development projects. Governor Matt Blunt expresses similar concerns. He has formed a task force to advise him on how the ruling impacts state law and advise him on any changes that might need to be made.
