Cardinals Hurt By Bay’s Homers

June 27, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Jason Bay did the Cardinals in on Sunday with two-game tying home runs in a 5-4 win for Pittsburgh. Reggie Sanders and Yadier Molina hit home runs in the second inning to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead, but Bay hit his 14th long ball of the year in the third inning to tie it up at 3-3.

In the ninth, with the Cardinals up 4-3, Bay hit a solo shot off Cardinals reliever Jason Isringhausen to tie the game and force extra innings.

Al Reyes suffered the loss after Jose Castillo took him deep in the 10th inning for what proved to be the game winning hit.

The Cardinals were their own worst enemies at the plate Sunday, grounding into six double plays. St. Louis and Pittsburgh split the four game series.
