At the Missouri Amateur Golf Championship former MU golfer James Godwin was knocked out of the first round of stroke play. The Poplar Bluff resident, who led after the first day of stroke play and was the fifth seed, was eliminated in the first day of match play by 60th-seed Bill Roberts of Bolivar.

In the longest match of the day, Sedalia’s B.J. Curry needed 23 holes to top Brad Nurski of St. Joseph. Neither player was ever more than one-up on the other during the entire match.

32 players enter match play on Friday and eight will remain after two rounds.
