Three Arrested in Connection With Fatal I-70 Crash

June 22, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of alien smuggling as the investigation into that fatal van crash near Columbia continues. The wreck on I-70 killed five and injured 15 others. A spokesman for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency says 22-year-old Gelson Mancilla-Santiago of Guatamala, believed to be the driver, and two passengers in the van have been placed in federal custody. The van had California license plates. It was scheduled to make stops in New York, Washington, South Carolina and Georgia with the promise that its occupants, most of whom were from Central America, would find good jobs.
