Governor Matt Blunt rejects suggestions by Democrats that he has been lax in his response to the proposed closing of Missouri military facilities. Blunt points out Governor Bob Holden, a Democrat, didn’t hire a consultant to help the state fight off recommendations by the Pentagon to the Base Realignment and Closure Commission, known as BRAC. Blunt says he’s hired a consultant and believes the Missouri Congressional delegation made a compelling case before BRAC’s hearing in St. Louis. The BRAC is considering recommendations to move the 131st fighter wing from St. Louis, to move the Army Reserve Human Resource Command in Overland and to close the Defense accounting service offices in both St. Louis and Kansas City.
