Chiefs’ starting cornerback Julian Battle will miss the entire 2005 season after tearing an Achilles’ tendon on Saturday. The injury will require surgery. This leaves the Chiefs secondary in flux because Eric Warfield, who was demoted to the second-team will likely receive a suspension by the league for his drunk driving conviction earlier this year. It was his third offense in four years. He could miss up to four games.

This could leave the door open to possibly going after Ty Law, who the Chiefs decided not to sign when the free agency period began. The Chiefs, it is believed, don’t have much room underneath their salary cap.

Over the weekend the Chiefs signed wide receiver Freddy Mitchell to the league minimum after former Rams and Lions wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim signed a one-year deal then asked out of it. The Chiefs agreed and never sent the signed deal to the league’s office.
