Local Investors Reportedly Interested In Buying Wizards

June 14, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The Kansas City Star is reporting that Kansas City Wizards owner Lamar Hunt has received a local offer to buy the soccer franchise. Hunt will put the team up for sale on December 9th and said keeping the team in the area is a top priority. The identity of those making the offer to keep the team in the Kansas City area isn’t known.

Johnson County (Ks.) has discussed the possibility of building a soccer-only stadium that would be surrounded by state of the art youth fields.

Another potential suitor for the franchise is Andrew Murstein, who is the president of the Medallion Financial Corp. of New York.

The Kansas City Wizards won the 2000 MLS Cup and made it to the finals in 2004 before losing to D.C. United.
