President Bush had made it back to Missouri for the first time in his second term. And those associated with the re-election campaign of Senator Jim Talent are glad he made the trip. Bush hit on familiar themes during a gathering that attracted a thousand people to the Millenium Hotel in downtown St. Louis: the war in Iraq, the economy, Social Security and the judiciary. He called on Congress to give him an energy bill by the summer recess. And Bush raised money – a lot of money. Senator Talent’s Finance Director Jack Oliver says Bush raised $1.5-Million for the Talent re-election campaign, doubling the Senator’s campaign warchest.
