Not All Thrilled With Opening of New Ethanol Plant

June 2, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

While state officials gather at a new ethanol plant grand opening at Malta Bend, one alternative-fuel producer worries there will be more ethanol than demand for the corn-based fuel. Gene Millard sits on the board of directors for an ethanol cooperative in Craig in Northwest Missouri. He says what’s really needed is a statewide mandate to increase the use of ethanol. Millard worries that increased ethanol production could end up making a glut of ethanol, push down the prices the ethanol producers can get, and possibly force some cooperatives out of business.
