Sheryl Crow helps hometown Kennett dedicate new swimming complex

May 29, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

The city of Kennett, in southeast Missouri, has a new municipal swimming complex, thanks to the generosity of pop star Sheryl Crow who was on hand Saturday morning to help celebrate the grand opening of the Sheryl Crow Aquatic Center. A crowd estimated at 4,000 listened to Crow perform with a local band that included her father Wendell Crow on rhythm guitar.

“This is one of the most exciting days I’ve had in a really long time,” Crow told the audience. “If I was in better shape I’d put my swimming lsuit on and go swimming in the pool.”

In a brief, pool-side news conference following the concert and dedication ceremonies, Crow expressed her hope that the new swimming complex might help revitalize Kennett’s downtown area.

The complex features a “Junior Olympic” size pool (82 feet by 52 feet); a children’s pool; a splash pad and a large water slide. The project was coordinated by Steve Crow, Sheryl’s brother and a local builder.
