The Royals tied the game up with an RBI double from David DeJesus in the third inning and Mike Sweeney’s RBI single in the fifth. That lead lasted until the bottom of the sixth when Kevin Mench doubled in Alfonso Soriano to make it 3-2, Texas. Hidalgo struck again in the seventh with a solo shot give the Rangers a 4-2 lead.

Kansas City scored a run in the ninth, when Ruben Gotay hit a double and Terence Long scored on a fielding error by Soriano. With Gotay on second, with one out, Angel Berroa and DeJesus both struck out and the game was over.

Runelvys Hernandez dropped to 2-6 on the season with a six-inning performance. Hernandez was charged with three runs off five hits and two walks.

The Royals are expected to begin the interview process for a permanent manager on Wednesday and a new skipper could be in place by next week. The team hasn’t commented on who’s on their short list, other than interim manager Bob Schaefer, but Art Howe and Terry Collins have told the Kansas City Star that they are candidates. Grady Little told the paper that he hasn’t been contacted.
