Missouri cattle producers will continue to pay a dollar on every head of cattle they sell as the US Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the beef checkoff. The money goes to advertising campaigns, such as the “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner” ads, and research within the industry. Steve Taylor, Executive director of the Missouri Beef Industry Council, says producers in this state do see returns on their dollar-a-head investment. Taylor says despite the fact that most of Missouri’s cattle are sold as calves and fattened up and sold to packing houses by someone else, producers in this state still reap better prices on their end.
