How do they do it?

The Royals led the Orioles 8-2 in the second inning of last night’s game at Kauffman Stadium, but somehow they found a way to lose that lead and fall 12-8.

Trailing 2-0, Kansas City rallied for five runs in the first inning with RBI’s from Tony Graffanino, Matt Stairs, Emil Brown, John Buck and Mark Teahen. In the second inning, the Royals rallied again with three runs without an RBI base hit. Angel Berroa scored on a throwing error, Eli Marrero Walked with the bases loaded and Stairs scored on a wild pitch. That made it 8-2.

And that was that for the Royals bats.

Baltimore went on to score 10 unanswered runs. Brian Roberts hit his 11th home run in the third inning to edge the Orioles to within five runs. They took the lead in the fourth with a six-run rally. Jose Lima allowed four of those runs with no outs by allowing a solo homer to Rafael Palmeiro, an RBI double to B.J. Surhoff and a two run homer to Jay Gibbons. Jaime Cerda was inserted and he surrendered two more runs. In his second at bat of the inning, Palmeiro gave Baltimore the lead with an RBI single. Palmeiro was 4-for-5 with five RBI’s on the night.

Lima was charged with the loss and dropped to 0-4 on the season. The Royals were trying to win their third straight game for the first time in 10 months.
