For the sixth straight year, the Central Missouri St. baseball team has won the MIAA Conference tournament and they did it with a convincing 12-2 win over Emporia St. in Warrensburg Sunday. The Mules were led by shortstop Shawn Callahan, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI’s and three runs. Right fielder Adam Mailauskas and second baseman Brian McBryde, four hit fourth and fifth in the lineup behind Callahan, drove in two apiece.

The Mules, which are ranked 4th in the latest NCAA Division-II poll, broke open a 4-2 lead in the eighth inning with a five-run rally and added three more in the top of the ninth.

CMSU starting pitcher Josh Outman lasted six innings and surrendered both Emporia St. runs, but improved to 8-2 on the season. The Mules are 52-7 overall.

It was the second time the Mules faced the Hornets in the conference tournament and it won’t be the last time they play them this season. CMSU, which will host one of eight NCAA Regionals, will get fourth-seeded ESU on Thursday in their first round game. The other two teams at the regional will be the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Wayne St. (Neb.).
