Who knew beating the Padres at home could be this tough? San Diego scored three runs in the seventh and held on for a 6-5 win over the Cardinals, their second win in St. Louis in as many nights. The Redbirds jumped out to a 4-1 lead after four thanks to a Reggie Sanders home run and a three-run fourth inning. Former Cardinal Mark Sweeney blasted a two-run homer in the sixth to bring San Diego within a run Einar Diaz picked up his second RBI of the night with a single in the bottom of the sixth. But a two-run triple by Brian Giles and an RBI single by Sweeney in the seventh gave San Diego the lead for good. Trevor Hoffman pitched a perfect ninth for his 400th career save. He becomes just the third pitcher in major league history to record 400 saves.
