Canadian officials are trying to enlist the help of Missouri officials in a dispute over water with North Dakota. Consul General Anne Charles with the Candian Consulate in Chicago says they are concerned that water will be drawn off Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, under a plan being put forth by that state. She says that could introduce invasive species to Canada through the water. Why should Missouri care. Well, Charles says if Devil’s Lake has an outlet, it will also most likely gain an inlet, siphoning water from the Missouri River. Charles has enlisted the help of Governor Blunt and Attorney General Jay Nixon, a move that doesn’t surprise Nixon. Charles has even asked Democrat Nixon to contact Republican U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. Nixon’s not sure if she’ll take his call, but he will do what he can.
