Legislature Begins Effort To Save School Funding Formula

May 2, 2005 By admin Leave a Comment

House Speaker Rod Jetton is considering how to pick up the pieces now that a House committee has defeated a proposed change to the school funding formula. The Senate has already approved the measure that would switch school funding from being tied to the local property tax and levy to a minimum per pupil expenditure of $6,100. Jetton says the most logical route to take is for the committee to reconsider its rejection. No Democrats on the committee voted for the bill. Jetton says he needs support from rural Democrats to guarantee passage.
