Missouri Guard officials have unveiled structural changes that they say are the biggest since World War II. Among the highlights: more military policemen, fewer artillery and engineers, and the creation of a new maneuver enhancement brigade designed to provide battlefield support. After it’s all said and done, about 500 of the 10,500 Missouri Guard positions will be eliminated. Captain Tammy Spicer says despite the overall numbers of Guardsmen being reduced, there will be no loss of soldiers. But Spicer admits some soldiers might have to retrain into different jobs if they want to stay at their same armory or be willing to travel if they want their same job.
