Cornerback Patrick Surtain will be a Kansas City Chief. Head coach Dick Vermeil told the Associated Press that a deal has been made between the Chiefs and Dolphins. Kansas City will give Miami their second-round pick and the two teams have also traded their spots in the fifth round.

Earlier this week Chiefs President and General Manager Carl Peterson insisted that they would be hesitant to give up their slot in the second round, saying Wednesday, “I do not want to give up our second draft choice, no. We feel that we can draft a very good football player in the second round at the 46th pick. That’s where I’ve been from the beginning with this thing.”

Reports also indicate that the Chiefs and Surtain have agreed upon a new seven-year deal, which will be finalized once he passes a physical. Surtain made 40 tackles last season with four interceptions for Miami. He is a three-time Pro Bowler.
